Critical Update : 17th Dec 2009 - This email is being sent out to all affected users
To: all users of dev.2143
Subject: stijlnet / box77 Server Upgrade for dev.2143 Webhosting Accounts
-------------------------------------------
Hi, Yia Sas, Salut, Hallo. This is an important update affecting your website hosting. Please read it carefully.
stijlhost.co.uk's dev.2143 server is soon to be retired and hosting accounts moved to replacement hardware. This will affect various ad supported, reseller, stijlnet.com sponsored and dev. hosting users and their sites.
Over the last ten days we have experienced minor problems with dev.2143 (our server hosting your website) and, as a precautionary measure, we have now decided that 2143's scheduled retirement from our network is to be brought forward. After having given over 1000 days of reliable uptime, serving millions of pages, we know that it's now getting time to move each of its accounts over to one of today's latest machines.
The first thing you should know is that there's no need to panic; the process is normally a painless one for all site admins involved. Very shortly your domain will be moved to a fast, feature packed, secure and stable server, running an up to date LAMP software stack, new to our network and safely housed in a state of the art UK datacentre. Most users of 2143 will have their new accounts set up before 31st December.
What do you need to do?
All users, with FTP and Control Panel access, should download and backup copies of all their files stored on this server - now! You may also wish to login to your existing Control Panel account via http://cp.stijlhost.co.uk and take copies of your site usage stats to date, as these will be lost during the migration. Comprehensive monthly breakdowns can be found via the 'Usage Statistics' link. Database data may be downloaded via mySQL > mySQL Administrator > Export Data.
If your site enjoys ad supported or stijlnet.com sponsored free hosting then you shouldn't need to do anything else other than update the username and password in your FTP client, when the domain has been moved over. We'll send you the details once it's done. Your existing FTP password and Control Panel login will cease to work when we take a remote copy of your files and you should receive your new username and password within 24 hours of this happening. Please note that in the event of a hardware or software failure, our backups will not be possible and we will not be able to copy files to new hosting accounts. Please ensure that you have your own up to date backups of all your website files!
If your site is running an authorised MySQL database then back it up and save copies to your local computer and other secure media as a matter of course. You will be sent a separate update when your database account is to be transferred to a new server.
If you use your stijlhost.co.uk hosting with an approved 3rd party service such as blogger.com then you will also need to update your FTP login details over there.
If you have a self managed domain name and it's not pointed to ns1.stijlhost.co.uk and ns2.stijlhost.co.uk then the migration of sites will also require you to update the server IP address in DNS records. Details will be included with your new FTP password and Control Panel login..
dev. users and resellers will need to back up and transfer all files and databases within their own assigned hosting accounts. We cannot migrate these sites for you. Once new hosting accounts have been set up, you will be sent the appropriate login details. You will also need to make any necessary updates to Mail, FTP client and DNS records accordingly.
Remember that any databases, scripts, password protected areas, custom file permissions etc. may require specific set up once you begin to upload files to your new hosting account.
All enquiries regarding this migration should be addressed to our tech support mailbox quoting 'stijlnet / box77 Server Upgrade for dev.2143 Webhosting Accounts'
