Critical Security Update : Box77.info FTP Lock : This affects all box77.info hosting accounts

This important security update applies to all box77.info hosting users. You must read it or you will not be able to access your website files via FTP.

As of the 15th February a new security feature (the FTP lock) will be introduced to all box77.info hosting accounts. The new FTP lock will prohibit any FTP access or uploads, without first being unlocked through your control panel. The lock may be lifted for between one hour and the maximum of 28 days at a time. You may also stipulate a single IP address that is given approved access without you first having to lift the FTP lock.

This measure has been introduced by our upstream provider across their network and we are not able to remove it from your account. Please do not contact us to ask us to disable this feature. The FTP lock has been deemed necessary due to the increasing number of viruses that steal FTP credentials from a user's home computer and then proceed to hide malicious code within your website files on the server. This lock is being applied across the board and is no reflection on the way an individual hosting user has managed their account(s) in the past. If you have multiple box77.info accounts, you will need to lift the lock on each account as and when you require access.

From the 15th Feb, whenever you need to connect via FTP you will need to log into to your Control Panel ( http://cp.box77.info ) first and choose a period of time to Unlock FTP for. You may then open and connect as usual via your FTP client. FTP access will be locked again after the stipulated period of time.

Sites that allow approved 3rd party scripts or applications to access their domain via FTP may be seriously affected if a static IP address cannot be provided and we are currently looking at the various alternatives we may be able to offer users in this position.
